Kuala Lumpur: AirAsia X Berhad (AirAsia X) recorded strong growth in the first quarter of 2013, recording a total of 0.65 million passengers, an increase of 20.9 percent over the same period last year.
For the period up to 31 March, total AirAsia X remains of nine Airbus A330 and two Airbus A340, and A330 aircraft received 10th in April. Total passenger traffic, AirAsia X posted a 3.3 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) for the first quarter of 2013 and recorded a capacity of 3.9 billion, resulting in a load factor of 84 percent and making it the second-largest low-cost carrier after AirAsia Berhad.
AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani said the company will continue to focus on increasing the capacity in identified markets including Australia, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.
He said an additional seven aircraft this year will be advantageous for the company to grow in the long-haul segment in the Asia-Pacific region.
"The move to KLIA 2 years provides complete infrastructure and improve facilities to support network growth and better connectivity within the AirAsia group," he said.
